I took up guitar this year, and have been reminded that being a new student of anything is a good builder of patience, self-acceptance, and courage. This weekend I went to the Alabama Folk School for a guitar workshop with incredible musician Herb Trotman, and came away with a wealth of music theory that will last me a year, some new skills to practice, and very sore fingers.

During my regular visits to the Alabama Folk School I take time to hike, sit in rockers and visit, photograph for my paintings, peek in on the visual artists, and enjoy the concerts and jam sessions that arise among the musicians. A short weekend away at AFS is rejuvenating and relaxing, and I definitely get my art fix.
